ABOUT US
We are a family of 4 trading in the social norms for the simple life.
Welcome, my name is Amanda. Before we go any further I’d like to acknowledge the traditional owners of the land on which I travel, and the land on which you reside as you are reading this. I acknowledge elders past, present and emerging.
Always was, always will be.
I am a mum to a pigeon pair and a fur-baby (Winton our Moodle).
For year we longed to travel Australia with our kids. In 2018 we sold our small business and an investment property giving us $80,000 to buy a caravan and fund a 6 month trip. That may sound like a lot of money to splurge in half a year (mind you we sold the caravan when we got back), but it was worth every cent. We have never regretted it.
Returning back to ‘normal’ life felt good with a sense of accomplishment in what we had done. But it didn’t take long for the travelling bug to hit again (along with the Covid 19 virus!). In September 2012 we went to the local caravan expo (an annual day out we always looked forward to!) with no intention to buy anything. However we found a caravan that we loved the concept of and but a deposit down to begin the process of designing and building our new home on wheels.
This van was a much greater expense than our first second hand, European van. This one was not for the odd weekend camping. The consensus was that we would hit the road again and this was a discussion made with our kids (then aged 8 and 6). Thanks to the covid housing boom we had sufficient equity in our house to refinance our home loan to pay for the caravan.
You will find I am very open when it comes to our finances. Normally people are so private with there financial status. I dont get it – and I’m hopeful my transparency gives others the confidence to follow their dreams! We are not rich. Other than the equity in our house, we both work average paying jobs myself part-time as I study. My partner works from home (and can do so from anywhere) and I study externally. Both big ticks for supporting a travelling lifestyle!
Currently we are preparing to leave in October/November.
